Remedies For Some Common Eye Problems

Conjunctivitis, black eye and eye stain are most common problems of eyes. Eye strain is well known through symptoms like dark circles, puffy eyes and decreased power of the eye. Symptoms of conjunctivitis include redness of the eye and increased sensitivity to light. It is also known as pink eye. Black eye is name given to the condition in which the capillaries around the eye leak the blood into the tissues nearby.Since the blood is deposited and there is no exchange of oxygen through this blood, the appearance of the tissue becomes black.

Remedies for Conjunctivitis

Calendula and goldenseal work very well for the infected eye. Eye wash of goldenseal herb can be prepared by pouring 250 ml of boiling water on 1 tbsp of powdered root of goldenseal. Allow it to steep for 15 minutes.

Filter the mixture. Rinse eyes with this lukewarm eye wash. The herb tends to stain cloths so do not splash the eye wash. Just rinse gently.

Itching and discomfort of the eyes can be relieved by applying a compress made from calendula tea. This can be prepared by pouring 250 ml of boiling water on 2 tbsp of dried calendula. Allow it to steep for 15 to 20 minutes. Apply it to the affected for 15 minutes.

Remedies for Black Eye

Ice is the simplest remedy for black eye. It constricts the vessels and arrests the bleeding. Do not apply crushed ice directly to the eye. Wrap it with a thin cotton towel. Apply it for 5 minutes.

Remove it. Apply a fresh pack of ice after 10 minutes. You can do this cycle three time. Wait for 1 hour and do it again unless swelling and pain decreases.

One can apply arnica gel to decrease swelling and blackness of the eye. Take care that arnica is not very near to the eye as it will cause burning in excess. Also, do not apply the gel on skin area with any cut.

Remedies for Eye Stain

Palming is the simplest way to de-stress the eyes. Rub your hands together and apply the warmth to your eyes. One can do this exercise as frequently as one wants to do.

Grate potatoes and apply them on each eye. Wait for 15 minutes. Remove using cotton.
